In a time when many companies come and go, Percival Scientific Inc. has the unique distinction of being in business for over 125 years. In 1886, C.L. Percival and J.E. Smith established Percival Manufacturing in Des Moines, Iowa. Initially, the company manufactured and sold butcher tools, machinery and fixtures. By 1901, the need for a refrigerated cabinet became evident, prompting Percival to pursue and receive a patent. Forty years later, in 1941, the company moved to a new 24,000 square foot facility and continued to manufacture a complete line of refrigerated display units. Since May 2000, we've occupied a state-of-the-art 60,000 square foot facility in Perry, Iowa.

Patented High Efficiency Lamp Bank (not available on all units)

At Percival, we engineer chambers to be easy on our environment while supplying you with research standards you've come to expect (and maybe some you haven't). This is why our patented lamp banks require less energy and radiate less energy. The unique design lets you experience maximum light irradiance without sacrificing optimal temperature.

Percival's exclusive lamp bank features include:

IntellusUltra™ Daily Light Integral (DLI)

The IntellusUltra™ DLI option consists of a light sensor and IntellusUltra™ controller. It is compatible with both IntellusUltra™ C8 and IntellusUltraConnect™ C9 controllers and only works with single channel, closed-loop dimming (Q22 on the AUX channel) option. The controller is provided with an additional DLI programming mode when the DLI option is ordered. DLI programs run daily with the lights turning on at a programmable time. The lights will turn off when the programmed daily light integral is met or at a programmable time. A DLI program also consists of programmable day and night temperature and optional humidity set points.

The IntellusUltra™ DLI programming option allows for the simple diurnal programming of Percival Scientific's chambers with the benefits of plant specific light programming.

Simply reference the plant growth table to retrieve the plant being researched and program the photosynthetic photon flux (light quantity) and daily light integral values into the IntellusUltra™ DLI program. Once the program is run, the IntellusUltra™ controller will do the rest!

Monitor Screen

Easily edit and run day and night settings using the Diurnal Program Screen. All lights automatically turn on during the day period and turn off during the night period.

Edit Program Screen

Create and edit multi-step programs using the Edit Program screen. Up to a total of 560 program steps can be created. Up to a total of 70 programs can be created. Refer to IntellusUltra™ specification sheet for details on how programs and program steps are divided between programming modes.

E-mail Setup

Add up to five e-mail addresses for alarm and chamber status notifications. Alarm notifications are sent immediately upon alarm activation. Status notifications can be sent hourly, every six hours, every twelve hours or once per day. Alarm notifications and status notifications can be activated or deactivated separately per e-mail address.

Sequence Program Screen

Link programs together to run different profiles over time using the Sequence Program Screen. Up to 50 programs can be linked together.

IntellusUltra™ Touch Screen Computer System and Control Software

Percival Scientific offers the IntellusUltra™ Control Software and IntellusUltra™ Touch Screen Computer System. The IntellusUltra™ Control Software is a powerful management system that allows you to precisely and effectively control, monitor and collect data from Percival chambers. It utilizes a user-friendly graphical interface (GUI) that is intuitive and simple to master. The software can be purchased separately and installed on a Windows based PC locally or remote from the chambers.

The IntellusUltra™ Touch Screen Computer system option is installed directly on the chamber. The IntellusUltra™ Control Software is pre-installed on the IntellusUltra™ Touch Screen Computer System.

IntellusUltra™ Touch Screen Computer System features:

  • The IntellusULtra™ Touch Screen Computer System includes all of the IntellusUltra™ Control Software features
  • 10.4" SVGA 800 x 600 color touch screen

    Comprehensive Warranty Program

    All products manufactured by Percival Scientific, Inc. are warranted to be free from defects in material or workmanship for a period of 24 months from date of shipment by Percival Scientific. Percival's obligation under this warranty is limited to the repair of defects at no charge for parts, labour and transportation. This warranty applies to all products shipped from Percival Scientific, Inc. after February 1, 1994. Percival Scientific, Inc's own shipping records showing date of shipment shall be conclusive in establishing the warranty period. Replacement of repaired parts will be warranted only for the un-expired portion of the original warranty.

    This warranty does not include parts or elements which outlive their normal expected terms of usefulness (e.g. light bulbs, etc.). This warranty is limited to products purchased and installed in the United States. It does not apply to damage caused by accident, misuse, fire or acts of God. It does not apply to damage caused from failure to properly install, operate or maintain the product(s) in accordance with the printed instructions provided by Percival Scientific, Inc. This warranty is in lieu of any other warranties, expressed or implied, including merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

    The owner agrees that Percival Scientific's sole liability with respect to defective parts shall be as set forth in this warranty, and any claims for incidental or consequential damages are expressly excluded.     Percival's Intellus™ Ultra Controller

    The IntellusUltra™ controller controls temperature, lighting, humidity (optional) and CO2 (optional). The single-board electronic solid-state design includes a 10 key membrane keypad with LED indicators and vacuum fluorescent display. Programs can be configured to run in real time or elapsed time. Ramping and non-ramping program methods are available for each programming mode. Multiple programs can be linked creating complex environmental profiles. Optional Intellus™ Web Server allows monitoring and controlling of chamber via a web browser (requires Internet Explorer 6.0+) This option allows for remote monitoring and programming of the chamber including alerts and current condition updates for up to five e-mail addresses.     Lighting System

    Create your own spectrum by adjusting the individual colour spectrum ranges. This line of LED chambers provides the correct spectral quality at the correct irradiance with exceptional environmental control every time.

    The LED Chamber series offers an improved lighting system performance over a larger range of temperature, and greater flexibility to control the specific wavelength of light required. The multi-channel dimming system allows close control of each LED colour at 10 - 100% of light intensity. LED modules are currently available in the following configurations:

    • Blue/Red
    • White Far Red/Red/Blue
    • White/Red/Far Red


    White LEDs are included on every module and offer a high-output Cool White colour that is ideal for high light intensity, colour rendering and visual plant inspection. Green, UV and different colours of LEDs are available upon request.

    LED lamps offer a longer design life with minimal decrease in performance over time, and minimal lamp heat introduced into the research environment.

    Vertical Air Flow System

    The LED Chamber series offers a perforated floor plenum which creates a gentle, uniform, upward air flow inside the chamber. An air diffuser with slow, vertical airflow insulates the shelf-level experiments from heat generated by the lamp bank.

    Cabinet Construction

    The cabinet's interior is constructed of 22-gauge electro-zinc plated steel. The exterior is constructed of 18-gauge exterior electro-zinc plated steel. Welded seams and joints exist on outer and inner shells. The inner shell is supported by non-compressing/non-thermal conducting material locking inner liner in place without a metal-to-metal bond to the outer case. The chamber is completely self-contained, with its overall wall thickness being 2 Inches (5.1 cm). The unit contains a caster assembly and adjustable leveling legs to compensate for floor unevenness in the lab.

    Insulation

    The chamber includes a woodless construction using CFC free insulation. The overall wall thickness is 2" [5.1 cm], which is ample insulation for maintenance of the stated temperature range.

    The chamber includes one door opening measuring 29.2 x 57.5 Inches (74 x 146 cm) which provides full access to the chamber's interior. A magnetic gasket provides a tight seal to the door frame.

    Finish

    The interior and exterior of the cabinet is painted with a highly reflective, environmentally friendly, high temperature baked white powder coating.

    Refrigeration

    ¼ h.p. self-contained air-cooled condensing unit with hot gas bypass system for continuous compressor operation, extended life and close temperature control (this continuous running condensing unit ensures precise temperature control by alternately cycling refrigerant and hot gas to coil; this also prolongs the life of the compressor, and eliminates the risk of ice buildup in the coil). A top mounted refrigeration system allows easy access for maintenance (e.g. cleaning).

    As heat is rejected, it rises and is dissipated into the room without having any effect on the inside temperature of the cabinet. Solenoid valves have extended stem for quiet and long life operation.

    Ceiling mounted evaporator coil incorporates twin air circulation fans in aluminum housing (heat rejection to ambient [standard chamber] = 5,900 BTU/hr.)

    Temperature Range

    7° C - 44° C (± 0.5° C).

    Temperature Safety Limit Controls (Experiment Protection)

    Adjustable high and low temperature controls, audible alarms, and visual indicators provided. Controls shut down all power to the chamber, activating alarms (when the temperature returns to the normal range the system will automatically reset).

    Humidity Control (Optional)

    This section outlines the PERH1 option
    Additive humidity control of higher than ambient to 85% (± 10%) lights on for set temperatures between 15° to 30° C. Humidity control of higher than ambient to 90% (± 10%) lights off for temperatures between 15° to 30° C. Extended humidity ranges are available. See other specification sheets or consult factory for additional information. If humidity system is selected as an option, a de-mineralized water supply is required which terminates to a ½" MPT connector.
