SafeView^TM products represent a new and safe class of nucelic acid stains for the visualization of double-stranded DNA, single-stranded DNA, and RNA in agarose gels. The dyes are developed to prelace toxic Ethidium Bromide (EBr a potent mutagen), commonly used in gel electrophoresis for visualization of nucleic acids in agarose gels.
SafeView^TM products are non-carcinogenic by the Ames-test. The results are negative in both the mouse marrow chromophilous erythrocyte micronucleus and mous spermary spermatocyte chromosomal aberration tests.

Note: SafeView^TM Nucleic Acid stains are non-carcinogenic, but may cause skin and eye-irritations. Always wear gloves when working with the product.

SafeView Classic is used the ame way as Ethidium Bromide in agarose gel electrophoresis. It emits green fluorescence when bound to dsDNA and red fluorescence when bound to ssDNA or RNA. This stain has two fluorescence excitation maxima when bound to nucleic acid, at approximately 290 nm and 490 nm.

Protocol:

1. Prepare a 100 ml agarose solution
2. Add 5 µl SafeView^TM Classic to the agarose solution
3. Mix gently; solution should have no air bubbles
4. Let the solution cool down to 60-70°C and cast the gel
5. Run gel electrophoresis with 5µl SafeView^TM classic per 100 ml buffer
6. View the results under UV light
